This post is coming from a bench outside the library. There’s going to be no other content in this post other than the fact that I’m sitting outside the library making a post in the evening, and it’s nice. I’ll come up with something substantial later.
The general situation of my life at the moment is organising my situation for next year – My provisional results tell me I’m definitely through, which is a relief, though Logic continues to be a problem. Hopefully soon I’ll have my final results which will confirm it all, and justify me trying to sort out accommodation for next year as well as trying to find someone who will supervise me for my final year project next year, which isn’t a job I’d want.Still, things are going well at the moment, if slightly stressful. The only really annoying thing is my loss of an internet connection in my soon-to-be-no-longer-residence, which to me is equivalent to losing several limbs. I’ve been hanging around in the CS labs recently to get connected, as well, and Matt’s been helpful as well, so good for him.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to collapse of exhaustion, so I’ll just fingvtttttttttttttttttt
Recently I’ve been subject to a bit of bad luck – for a start, there was the rain, which I foolishly managed to find myself stuck in yesterday, meaning I ended up completely drenched in the ten minute walk from campus to my flat. I actually don’t mind rain generally, but this was nasty stuff, as you’ve probably seen.
Perhaps slightly related to the weather was the loss of power to the flat this morning, which is potentially devastating to my technology warped mind. Fortunately it came back (for us anyway) reasonably soon afterwards, but unfortunately my laptop was now refusing to connect to the internet for whatever reason, so no luck there. And then, the news comes that the power is going to be off again while they to fix the unknown fault, so cue digging and darkness.
OK, so it’s less bad luck than a series of mild inconveniences, but it’s annoying and unusual (making it perfect blog fodder). Some good stuff has come out of it, though, since it gave me a good excuse to get out of the flat and head to the COGS LAN party, where I am now and likely to remain throughout the night. I don;t know whether they’ve fixed the fault or not, but I don’t intend to trawl back through the rain in order to try and navigate my way through a flat which is hard to see in at the best of times when at the very least I have power here.
So that’s that, I guess. That, and taking far too much pleasure in the directors commentary for Hot Fuzz than I really should take from a bunch of people talking over a film. And it’s good to hear that I’m not the only one who wants to have the music cues played when I walk down a street.
I’ve been wanting to use that quote so much. Doctor Who was awesome.
I’m back in Birmingham now to sort out my final year at uni, which hopefully should go smoothly provided I’ve got the marks and provided I can find a decent final year project. I’ve been sort of hoping the worry over the results would have gone by now, but annoyingly it seems to be getting worse. Not that I can do much about it, of course, but I’m not sure this year has gone quite according to plan.
On the plus side, I’m enjoying the free time, along with the money I got for my birthday, which is being reserved for Hot Fuzz on DVD. Looking forward to that, it’s an amazing film. I also got to see Pirates 3 over the weekend, and I enjoyed it. And I also got to buy Kaiser Chiefs and Clash albums. Go me.
I shouldn’t be so worked up about these exams, but as people keep telling me, I’m an over-thinker. It’s like living with another version of me in my head telling me what to do, and I know for a fact that I can be exceptionally annoying. Still, life goes on.
Right now I’m feeling really good. Not just because I finished my exams, but also because by complete accident I managed to find The Great Wil Overton(TM)’s deviantArt account. And naturally, it contains Great Wil Overton(TM) art as well, which is always a good thing. Admittedly, this is only likely to be of interest if you are a long time reader of NGamer (formally NGC, formally N64, formally Super Play), but if you are, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
The final exam took please today, and went…reasonably. I say reasonably because this particular module has gained something of a loathing among the second year CS students for a number of reasons, and no one I’ve talked to has a good feeling about it. We’ll have to wait and see, I guess. I’ll be heading back home at some point this week as for an end of exam/late birthday celebration, which should be fun, before heading back for third year induction, and hopefully good results.
And now, I shall commence with absolutely nothing. Please do not disturb.
I cannot tell you how stressful this last week has been – last minute projects and other stuff have been keeping me so wound up that I’ve been struggling to sleep properly. However, the semester is over now, and I’ve got a nice long recovery before the exams after easter. I feel I could use one now.
I’ll be heading home for the holidays, which’ll be great. It’ll be nice to see everyone again.
So…tired…
I think I must have been in a good mood yesterday after finally finishing my SE assignment, because I ended up buying two Specials albums, and a box set of the first six Madness albums, which is probably more than enough 2 Tone to keep me occupied for a while. Not that I’m complaining – there’s some good stuff on all of them, and I’m now very close to owning everything Madness have every released, which I’m sure is a worthy goal..for somebody.
I do actually have work to be getting on with, but I’m pretty confident about it now that the SE is out of the way. Next big thing is another SE assignment, and a Team Java project, which will be hard, but not impossible. Of course in a months time I’ll probably be up to my knees in work, but anyway…
Final note: next weekend I’ll be going of with family and friends to Castleton Youth Hostel. I’ll try and get some interesting stories.
(Yes, I know that’s the second post in a row with the title in capitals…)
The Software Engineering assignment that has been plaguing me for weeks has finally been done, completed, finished, ended. And I’m so glad…the thing had me up literally all night last night.
And now that it’s done, I have a lot more free time to waste. Right now I’m typing this on my laptop while my friend Matt attempts to hijack an internet meme in order to promote recycling. (Every time you fail to recycle…etc)
I missed this. I’m now making the most of my free time, and I’m in such a good mood at the moment. Project management would have been the death of me.
I should be doing my Software Engineering now, I really should. You know when there’s one part you can’t do that somehow stops you from doing the rest? Well, I’m in that situation and am thus not feeling the urge to try and resolve it. That said, I probably have at least made an attempt by the end of the day – I’m going to have to if I’m going to get it done for the 19th.
Feel free to tell I’m lazy – it would be the truth.
The new Spider-Man 3 trailer is up at iFilm, and brilliantly, they’ve allowed bloggers to distribute it. Like this.
I may be a marketing tool, but this film deserves it. I’m still a little worried it’s going to get a little caught up in the Venom story for it’s own good, but it does look pretty awesome so far. I suppose we’ll see come next year.
The oven in our fault caught fire yesterday, and I happened to be the one who walked in on it, which is not a position I wish on anyone. I managed to keep reasonably calm throughout, though I did forget we had a fire extinguisher, so any heroic attempts to stop it were left to my flatmates.
The fire could have been a lot worse – it hadn’t spread beyond the grill, though it was very smoky. The fire alarms in The Spinney are notorious for being very sensitive, so no-one else in our block actually believed there was a real fire until we pointed out that it was, and then got a little bit nervous. No-one was injured, we all ended up OK, though we no longer have a cooker to cook things with until the new one comes in.
I strated this post with an ad, so I might as well end with one – Nintendo’s american advert for Wii.
See you soon!
